Discovering France through fiber
About FrenchSheep.com
Struggling to make my home in rural France, I sought solace in the things I knew best: the rhythm of the stitches on my needles and the textures of rustic sheep wools.
This website is the culmination of my motivation to reach out beyond my four walls, connect with other wool-lovers, and spread the word about the fascinating range of sheep that call this country their home.
I share photos from trips, tutorials for knitting techniques or natural dyeing using foraged materials, food reviews, day-in-the-life anecdotes about an uneventful rural existence, and generally try not to romanticise the situation too much.

About reviews on FrenchSheep.com
Unless otherwise stated, everything I review here has been bought as a private customer using my own money with no affiliation or disclosure. All opinions are my own and I don’t represent anyone else in my activities here on FrenchSheep.com, just me.
I am a knitter first and foremost, although I can also be a prolific spinner and love to dye with both natural and chemical eyes. Whilst all fiber crafts are welcome and represented here, most reviews will be from the perspective of knitting.
Even as a knitter, your mileage may vary. My preference has always been for primitive wools like Shetland, North Ronaldsay, Icelandic, etc., so I have a high tolerance for coarser textures than someone who sticks to superwash Merino wool. If you know you prefer finer wools, you may get more value from reading the Sheep Breeds Profiles rather than the Yarn Reviews. The breeds are always interesting, even if their wools are scratchy! That said, if you want to recommend products for review, I’m always keen to learn more. Please get in touch!
